Christine de Grancy

Christine de Grancy is one of the most important Austrian photographers of the present day. By chance, she was there in 1994 when David Bowie and Brian Eno visited the legendary artists’ colony Gugging, where psychiatric patients and artists lived. In an intimate way, De Grancy captures the moment of Bowie’s encounter with the “outsider” artists. This subject shows Bowie in the garden of the Gugging Sanatorium and Mental Hospital, sitting informally on the grass with a cigarette in his hand.

Christine de Grancy zählt zu den wichtigsten österreichischen Fotografinnen der Gegenwart. Durch einen Zufall war sie 1994 dabei, als David Bowie und Brian Eno die legendäre Künstlerkolonie Gugging besuchten, in der psychiatrisch betreute Patienten und Künstler lebten. Auf intime Weise fängt De Grancy den Moment der Begegnung Bowies mit den „Outsider“-Künstlern ein. Das vorliegende Motiv zeigt Bowie im Garten der Heil- und Nervenanstalt Gugging, wo er ungezwungen mit einer Zigarette in der Hand im Gras sitzt.
